PROJECT 1: Station ID

PROJECT INFO (1/10)
Our first project for this semester is to create a station ID animation within Cinema 4D. We could pick any TV station of our choice, or create our own unique station if we desired.

After some careful consideration, I decided to go with an existing TV station. Mostly due to the fact that I did not want to spend a lot of time creating a logo since we only have three weeks to create this ID.

However, I don't currently watch cable television due cutting down expenses to necessities (the life of a college student) so I considered TV stations I used to watch and asked a few friends for ideas. This brought me to Comedy Central and discovering they had changed their brand and logo this past year.
After looking through their logo redesign promos and what they have right now, it seems so static and graphic. I want to give their new boring logo some life through animation.

Quotes on the new logo/brand from Comedy Central

"Although Comedy Central is funny it also plays a larger role in culture,” Johnson says. “In a lot of ways, it’s like a major news network."
“One of the things we looked at constantly as we were developing the brand redesign is that it needed to become a next-generation brand package,”
“It’s an empty container that can take any form the comedy requires. ...Brands are becoming more about how they behave than how they look static.”
“The desired takeaway is that Comedy Central is not a television station, it’s a brand that connects me with comedy in all media. It surrounds me.” From Alicia, “It’s as easy for me to enjoy it as it is to share it, because I think you’ll dig it.”

The copyright is the ultimate emblem of the corporate world. Here, Comedy Central is literally turning it on its head. The joke is subtle but clever. You don’t need comic sans and a brick backdrop at the Ha Ha Club to say “funny.” The new logo brands Comedy Central as funny -- and subtly suggests that they've got a lock on laughs.

While some may find this mark to be too serious, boring, or too similar to other symbols, as it acts and behaves on every beautiful back-lit screen, it shows its unique personality. As it animates, it pukes, spins, and explodes with energy. It is frenetic. When it presents its full name — with the word central upside down and backwards — it tips its hat to slapstick heroes.
